MANAWA MAI TAWHITI
Manawa Mai Tawhiti is a traditional Maori Performing Arts Club dedicated to the preservation of traditional Maori culture. We provide an essential community to all people who call Te Urupu (Perth) home.
We strive to maintain the essence of the traditional Maori language and customs through music, dance, and lyrics. Established in Western Australia in July 2009, and incorporated in October 2010 as a not-for-profit organisation, Manawa Mai Tawhiti opens its doors to everyone in WA who share our dedication to Maori culture.
Our name, Manawa Mai Tawhiti, means “Yearning from afar”. This name derives from our collective yearning for all things home in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
We believe that it is vitally important to retain our cultural identity, whilst respecting other cultures and peoples in our new home in Western Australia.

As fellow First Nations people, we pay our respects to elders past and present. Discover the power of this homeland connection by performing with us or simply enjoying one of our performances.
